For a mixed packaging order, map each equipment line to its approved neutral or printed-box version and independent protective arrangement. Hold unapproved artwork separately from qualified goods.
Section 01
Choose the box around its handling and identity tasks
For a mixed packaging order, map each equipment line to its approved neutral or printed-box version and independent protective arrangement. Hold unapproved artwork separately from qualified goods. Reconcile receiving labels across both formats so presentation differences cannot hide model or destination identity. This method assumes no freight saving or approved packaging test.
For factory contract orders going directly to a controlled site, neutral boxes with clear project labels are a sensible baseline. Choose custom colour boxes when the buyer has a defined presentation or repeat-brand requirement that justifies the artwork and approval work. Either option must identify the contents and use protective packing suited to the actual equipment.
Illustrative project scenario: A contractor wants branding but most cartons go directly to a controlled construction site. Use CASE01's hypothetical 32-camera CNC factory as the equipment background. Assume a site stores team checks goods against the BOQ before issuing them to installers. The contractor's logo can appear on approved labels or documents without requiring every individual box to carry full printed artwork.
Ask where the packaging will be seen and how long it remains useful. A sample presented to the owner has a different purpose from a box opened immediately at the installation bench. Identify the brand approver, receiving process and packaging language first. That makes the choice reviewable by procurement instead of leaving 'premium packaging' as an undefined allowance.

Section 02
Separate artwork preparation from physical packaging
Request separate quotation lines for artwork preparation, label production, individual boxes, inserts and outer cartons. Ask which approved files can be reused and which changes require new preparation. A product image change, translated text or revised box size may affect different lines. Do not assume a repeat logo eliminates all repeat setup work.
Keep camera housing marking outside the box-printing line. NexPro-Link's OEM/ODM scope includes logo, label, manual, barcode and packaging options, while laser-logo work is a separately discussed capability. The supplier should identify exactly which activities a quoted setup covers. This prevents the same description from meaning label artwork in one bid and printed boxes in another.
For CASE01, the equipment list contains cameras and shared recording, network and power items. Their packaging needs should remain distinct. A camera-box price cannot be applied automatically to the recorder or UPS, and a single brand design does not establish a common insert. Missing packaging dimensions or material prices should stay unresolved until actual packing is proposed.
Section 03
Evaluate protection and receiving along the project route
Review the route from supplier packing through transport, site storage and final issue. Ask the supplier to show the individual box, accessory placement and outer packing arrangement for the selected models. The engineer and installer should confirm that connectors, mounts and identification remain accessible when checking the contents. Colour artwork alone establishes none of those functions.
Neutral and printed boxes can both carry model, quantity, serial reference and zone allocation. Use the same required identity fields in each option. For a camera technical label, preserve the exact model information, including the supplied 5MP family's listed 2880x1620 output where it is stated. Marketing artwork should not silently introduce unsupported specification claims.
A useful route review assigns the supplier the agreed protective packing, the contractor the receiving and issue process, and the owner the brand approval. Confirm any destination-specific label requirements through the appropriate local team. Box design, hardware logos and application identity remain separate; printing the contractor's name does not authorise renaming third-party software.
| Decision | Neutral box with labels | Custom colour box |
|---|---|---|
| Site identification | Project and model labels | Printed artwork plus project labels |
| Brand presentation | Limited to approved labels | Approved full box artwork |
| Layout changes | Revise affected labels | Review affected printed artwork |
| Protection basis | Confirm actual inserts and outer packing | Confirm actual inserts and outer packing |
| Preferred use | Direct site issue | Defined presentation or repeat-brand need |
Section 04
Use setup allocation without calling it a box-price comparison
The supplied cost illustration concerns OEM marking, not the price of neutral or colour boxes. Its fictional inputs are artwork/setup of 180 units and variable marking of 1.2 units per device. The formula is OEM_unit_cost = setup_units / batch_qty + variable_units. At 50 devices the result is 180 / 50 + 1.2 = 4.8 units per device; at 300 it is 180 / 300 + 1.2 = 1.8.
Setup allocation falls from 3.6 to 0.6 units per device, while variable marking stays at 1.2. Hardware, packaging materials, tax and freight are excluded. The figures demonstrate allocation across batch quantities; they are not NexPro-Link prices, a minimum-order commitment or proof that one marking method suits every housing.
For the box decision, use that allocation structure only after obtaining the real setup and variable inputs for each packaging option. Keep printing, materials and inserts visible rather than substituting the illustrative marking rate. CASE01's 32 cameras are a separate project quantity, and future demand should not be invented to spread setup over 300 units.
| Metric | 50 devices | 300 devices |
|---|---|---|
| Setup allocation | 3.6 fictional units/device | 0.6 fictional units/device |
| Variable marking | 1.2 fictional units/device | 1.2 fictional units/device |
| OEM increment | 4.8 fictional units/device | 1.8 fictional units/device |

Section 05
Use a restrained baseline and price presentation separately
Choose neutral boxes with project labels for the assumed direct-to-site order, provided the actual protective packing is accepted. This gives the receiving team the model and allocation information it needs while leaving artwork changes easier to isolate. The owner can still receive branded support documents or a separately approved demonstration package.
Choose custom colour boxes when the owner expects a branded handover presentation, the integrator has a stable repeat programme or downstream distribution needs consistent product presentation. Obtain an artwork proof and an actual packing sample before release. These conditions justify discussing the option, but they do not establish a lower total cost or stronger protection.
A hybrid can reserve custom boxes for presentation samples and use neutral project-labelled boxes for installation stock. Quote those quantities separately. Compare alternatives using the same equipment, accessory provision and protective route. The decisive table difference is presentation and revision effort; both options still need accurate identity and appropriate packing.
Section 06
Freeze box versions against the equipment schedule
The approved packing schedule should identify each model, its selected box option, included accessories, label language and outer-carton destination. Keep the artwork revision linked to the purchase order. If a camera model changes, review the printed description and insert fit before using remaining boxes. Existing artwork stock is not a reason to mislabel substituted equipment.
NexPro-Link can discuss OEM packaging and project supply preparation using the buyer's equipment list and destination. Its BOQ support provides a route to align technical model references with commercial quantities. Local receiving arrangements and final owner approval should be assigned to the project team rather than implied by the packaging offer.
Before release, check a packed sample against the agreed contents and paperwork. State whether spare boxes, replacement labels or future artwork files are included. At handover, retain the version record so later orders can repeat the correct presentation without copying outdated model claims. This is more useful than treating the appearance of the box as proof that the delivered package is complete.

Section 07
Buyer questions
Can we approve custom artwork before all camera models are final? You can approve the brand layout provisionally, but keep model text, box dimensions and inserts open. Release production only when those affected fields match the selected equipment.
Do neutral boxes prevent a branded handover? No. Approved project labels, manuals and support cards can carry the contractor's identity. Specify which owner-facing items need branding rather than assuming all installation packaging must be printed.
Should unused printed boxes be included in the unit comparison? Include any quoted purchase obligation and agreed handling of unused packaging. Do not assume future projects will consume it; artwork and model changes may make remaining stock unsuitable.
