Draw the data and electrical paths separately
Ordinary glass fiber does not carry the electrical power used by switches or APs. A passive splitter needs no supply, but the devices at its ends do.
- Local power: UPS/outlet → correct adapter → ONU or terminal.
- Copper PoE: compatible PSE port → Ethernet channel → powered endpoint.
- Hybrid cable: approved source/pigtail → copper conductors beside fiber → matched receiver.
Check both port and whole-device limits
Sum actual negotiated PSE allocations, not only nominal endpoint consumption. Include startup and the reserve agreed for the project.
- EGT910-H-PD: up to30W/port but120W total.
- ES4200-8P2RX-B:115W output with local adapter or40W with remote input.
- IEF4320-8T2P2XR-PWR-EI:30W/port and60W total; rated input differs from non-PWR variants.
Carry the calculation upstream
An access device's PoE output is not its input load. Include its own consumption, conversion/cable losses and all protected devices when sizing source power and UPS.
- For hybrid runs, calculate conductor voltage drop and verify receiving voltage at load.
- For redundant PSUs, check what remains after one PSU/feed fails.
- Size UPS real power, VA, runtime, battery condition and outlet distribution separately.
